Vermillion River Trophy Trout Trip (Twin Cities)
The Vermillion River has been designated by the state as more than 19 miles of trout stream including its tributaries. According to Trout Unlimited, it is the only Blue-Ribbon trout stream within a major metropolitan area in the United States. Wide spread improvements have been made to the stream by state and local agencies as well as local sporting groups like Trout Unlimited, enhancing the chances at trophy fish. The Vermillion River has a lower, but quality population of self-sustaining brown trout and they get huge! Fish 30 inches long have been caught! Portions throughout the stream are also being annually stocked with rainbow trout as well, adding a unique chance at another trout specie very close to home.

Mississippi River Trophy Smallmouth Bass
The Mississippi River running through the north central part of our state has been said by many to be one of the most premier smallmouth bass fisheries in the country. Mahigan Outdoors has created a specialized wading trip for the fall and winter months that takes advantage of the seasonal migration of these fish. This time of year the fishing is catch and release only, but catching 10-20 fish a day is the norm. At times we almost feel guilty for doing so, almost! We will guide you to the locations that these fish stack up in, provide the bait, and gear if necessary, and help you hold on! Come join us and see for yourself what the combination of fall fishing, river expertise, and special regulations can provide in world-class river habitat.
Just over 30 minutes from downtown Minneapolis, this very special experience is available right in our backyard. Mahigan Outdoors will arrange with you a meeting place, special needs and accompany you for all aspects while on the river. We have several locations available to fish and can rely on these locations as needed to provide whatever experience you are looking for. Want off the beaten path, want it super easy or somewhere in between, we can make it happen. Adventure Day Trips (Driftless Region Southeast Minnesota)
Our “Mini Montana” & Belle Creek adventure day trips are true gems. These trips are in the Driftless Region of the state, true Minnesota trout country. Classic trout water with fantastic habitat, as well as special regulations. This creates a perfect blend and combination for picturesque backdrops and numbers of fish. You're going to stay busy whether you choose to go at it with traditional fly-fishing gear or conventional spinning gear. These streams are open for the winter catch and release season, which means the season opens January 1st every year.
Some remoteness of these locations relieves fishing pressure, so spending an entire day here and not seeing another fisherman is not that uncommon. We have proven success on these waters with youth and novice fisherman; we specialize in just this sort of thing on all our trips!
If you have a true sense of adventure and are looking for a scenic Minnesota trout fishing location this is for you. These trips require some hiking into the valleys where the creeks are located. You don’t need to be an athlete to make these trips, but you will work a bit and need a daypack with some gear. The hike is more than worth it as you are surrounded with the picturesque bluff country of the region, spring flowers in bloom, as well as numerous wildlife. The backdrop is unrivaled.

Absolutely! The most rewarding trips we take are those first timers! We cater to just this type of person. We can help with your fly-casting technique, knot tying, reading the stream, you name it. From top to bottom we are here to help and teach as much as we are here to help you catch some fish.

No problem! We can supply all the gear necessary for any trip we offer. From the rods and reels, to waders, boots, and all the flies, lures, and bait you’ll need.

Come properly dressed for the current weather. Layering to add or shed clothing is best. Avoid cotton clothing and wear good socks!
Bring along a lunch or snacks if you like, especially on our day trips.

I don’t consider myself a fly-fishing guide, I’m a fishing guide. Any way you want to fish will be how we do it. Fly fishing, conventional spinning gear, or maybe you want to try both? Our clients decide.
